Animated Learning
Enriching the Creative Curriculum
StopMoGo's exciting cross-curricular workshops are ideally suited for groups of up to 30 young people in small groups. Using simple, yet specialist software, together with the latest equipment, children can truly make artwork come to life in their own animated film.
Animation can be applied to all school subjects. As it is a fun and recognisable medium, children interact quickly with the subject. It encourages them to work in groups, to be creative, to search for information, to create text and sound and to share their ideas. They learn while having fun; planning and creating films is exciting and hands-on. Finally, they can proudly share their works with friends and family.
StopMoGo's animation workshops are carefully structured as a first time introduction for children into film making. They are designed to enhance any curriculum subject you may choose. For example, working together to storyboard, create characters and sets, then animate them to create a short story, children are provided with engaging opportunities to develop Literacy skills in real contexts.
How can StopMoGo work for you?
Projects are tailored to suit your needs and can last from one day to a term, or even longer by special request. They range from an introduction to stop motion animation techniques, animating a particular topic (for example, the water cycle), to films with a fully developed story.
To support cross-curricular learning, projects can be based around school activities. Examples include: producing a video to promote your school, workshops based around current classroom topics or subjects, as well as current affairs.
Workshops can take place in the school day to support the curriculum, equally they can be part of your after school and/or holiday club provision.
As personal experience has shown, it is often difficult for teachers to implement stop motion animation in a school day due to time pressures and insufficient equipment and software. StopMoGo makes it easy for you. The latest laptops, high quality webcams, lighting and all other materials are provided to enable children to work in groups as small as 2-3.
In addition to enhancing the curriculum, the art of stop motion animation is multi-faceted and develops many skills including:
| ICT | Applying new software and using peripheral devices, such as webcams |
| D&T | Making puppets, sets, props, deciding which materials to use, designing lighting for mood, atmosphere or passing of time |
| Numeracy | Working out timings and sequencing |
| Literacy | Communicating and discussing ideas, creating characters & storyboarding, engaging the viewer |
| Art | Expressing your imagination & experimenting with different media |
| Problem solving | Thinking up new ways to do things, choosing camera angles, finding solutions |
| Teamwork | Working together with people in a group (the director, animator & technician), being flexible |
